Event: Fifth Annual Artists for Peace and Justice Fundraiser
Most A-list guests: Paul Haggis, Adrien Brody, Michael Bolton, Rufus Wainwright, Colin Firth, Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Wilde
The scene: At $1,250 a plate, this annual fundraiser for director and proud Canadian Paul Haggis’ Haiti charity Artists for Peace and Justice wasn’t strictly invite only, but if you can throw that kind of money around — even if it is for a great cause — it might as well have been. And with a guestlist that included a who’s who of Canadian business tycoons — the event was held at Roots head honcho Michael Budman’s private family residence, after all — as well as some of Hollywood’s biggest names and music’s purest voices, there was a lot of love and money to go around.
Masterminded by Haggis to raise funds for the impoverished children of Haiti, the event lived up to its star studded moniker, especially when it came to the charity auction, which included a private serenade by Michael Bolton and, strangely, a chance to push actress Maria Bello, dressed in a bright red designer suit and Louboutins, into the residence’s plush pool.
With a strong bid of $20,000, the humourous results speak for themselves:
